Honk! is a voice quiz app for the car. We built it to work without accounts, ads or tracking. This page explains what little data is involved and where it goes.

The short version

• No account, no sign-in, no ads, no analytics or tracking tools.
• Your settings, player names and scores stay on your device.
• We don't record or keep your voice.
• If you join the waitlist, we keep your email only to tell you about the launch.

The app

Microphone and speech recognition. When you answer out loud, the app uses Apple's speech recognition to turn what it hears into text and check it against the answer. Depending on your device, Apple may process the audio on the device or on Apple's servers, under Apple's privacy policy. Honk! doesn't save or send recordings anywhere else. You can turn voice answers off in the app, or turn off microphone access in iOS Settings.

Apple Music (Name That Song). Song clips are 30-second Apple Music previews. If you allow Apple Music access, the app asks Apple for the preview that's available in your country. You don't need an Apple Music subscription, and we don't see your music library or listening history.

Questions and updates. The app downloads new questions, host voice clips and song previews from Google Firebase (our hosting provider) and Apple. Like any web server, they see your IP address to deliver the files. We don't link these downloads to you.

On your device. Settings, player names and emojis, scores and Daily Honk results are stored only on your device. Deleting the app deletes them.

Photos. The app only adds a picture to Photos when you tap to save your score card. It never reads your photo library.

Purchases. The Honk! Pass is bought through Apple. We never see your payment details, only Apple's confirmation that the Pass is unlocked.

Kids. Honk! is made for families. It collects no personal data from children (or anyone else) in the app.

The website and waitlist

If you join the waitlist, we store your email address, the time you signed up and your browser's language. We use it only to email you about the Honk! launch and big news, based on your consent. It's stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore). We never sell it or share it with anyone else, and we delete it when you ask or when we stop sending launch news.

To unsubscribe or have your email deleted, use the unsubscribe link in any email or write to hello@honkquiz.com.

Tester feedback. If you test Honk! and fill in the feedback form, we store your answers (and your name or email only if you give them) to improve the app, in Google Firebase. We delete them on request.

The website uses no cookies and no analytics. Our hosting provider (Google Firebase Hosting) keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security.

Your rights

If you're in the EU, UK or a place with similar laws, you can ask to see, correct or delete your data, withdraw your consent, or complain to your data protection authority. Email hello@honkquiz.com and we'll answer within 30 days.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
